mother plucker
2008 was a bad year for me. It was just one thing after another. I don't understand it. My parents keep saying I need to cut back on spending, and I feel like I do, but maybe I just don't see it. I've stopped going out, and despite what they think, I turn down a lot of invitations to go do things. Why is it that it's not enough?
It's like I've sidetracked and can't seem to find my way back on the right path. That seems to be the theme of my life recently. In finances, in relationships, in work. I feel like I'm in a hole and can't dig myself out. I just keep falling deeper and deeper.
Anyway, to help remedy the dilemma, I decided to take on a second job. I suppose I don't necessarily need it, but I think if I could make some extra cash here and there, it would help me a lot. Plus, it'll keep me from going out and spending. In addition, the recession seems to be getting worse, so if I can rake in some side dough to save up, it would come in very handy.
I applied to Plucker's Wing Stop a couple weeks ago. They called me back for an interview, and I went in yesterday. I was a little nervous. I'm not sure why. Sunny D pointed out that I already have a job, so if it didn't work out, no biggie. I suppose that's true, but I guess the thought of being rejected from a buffalo wing joint made me a little uneasy. Overall, I felt it went well, but what do I know? Interviewers have a conniving way of making you feel like you got the job when in actuality, they never even plan on calling you back. We'll see what happens.
Plucker's. Of all places. Don't get me wrong, I love the place. But it's a little ironic seeing as I don't eat meat. I guess that's a good thing. If I did, I'd probably be eating wings every day I work, which would not be good and would totally kill #2 on my list of things to accomplish this year (see previous blog). I'm excited, though. It looks like a fun place to work, and the pace will be a lot different than here at work. I've always wanted to be a waitress, and here is my chance. I'm all about experiencing new things. Hopefully, this all goes as well as it is in my head. Knowing me and my clumsiness, it probably won't. Stay tuned for updates. Wish me luck!

woulda coulda shoulda
One of the people is an old college buddy. I flipped through some of his pictures, and I saw photos and photos of him and his longtime gf experiencing all kinds of new things in all sorts of new places. It made me reflect on myself and miss my old life. It made me think of him.
I know the only times I've written about him were the times I've been upset or felt alone. I try not to think about it, and I don't mean to paint him in a certain light. He really was a good guy. If he wasn't, I would've forgotten about him a long time ago. We enjoyed really good times, and we did so many things together. I feel that sharing those new experiences was what made our relationship so strong. It's tough to look at old pictures of our first trip together or our first concert together or our first anythings together. You always remember your firsts. You always remember the places you visited. You always remember the things that belonged to the both of you.
It gets easier to forget. Maybe not necessarily "forget," but easier to stow away for a while. I keep stowing away these memories in easy-to-reach places. I've never been a good hider.
When it was good, it was fantastic. We shared so many similar interests which made it easy to decide on what to try next. He knew how to always make me smile even when I was extremely upset. He kept me laughing for so long. Things were simple. Life was comforting to know I had someone by my side no matter what.
Birthdays are coming and going, and everyone has a significant other to share it with. Even if all their friends have plans and can't make it to celebrate, I know the feeling of being content with at least your boyfriend there with you. Sometimes, I used to feel that was all I needed.
That's probably the only thing I don't remember how to feel anymore.

let's try it again
I wonder what JT has been up to these days? He's been pretty low key.
I've been getting nightmares recently. I haven't had once since my old apartment. Strange. I wonder what's going on in that crazy subconscious of mine. I've been staying over at the Three Stooges' place almost every day, and it's starting to get exhausting. I think for the next couple weeks, I'm going to stay at mine. I've been behind on so many things. One, I have to take down my Christmas decor (as my roommate so kindly has reminded me on the while erase board in the kitchen). Two, I have never-ending loads of laundry to conquer. Three, I need to start studying. Scratch that, number three should actually be number one on my priority list. Four, I need to start running again. The weather's getting nicer for this. I'm excited to start this back up again.
The first month of the new year is coming to a close, and in fact, today is the first day of Chinese New Year! Aka... in case you got a bad start on resolutions the first time around, here's your second chance.
I have a list of things I need/want to do this year. Please help me stay motivated to acheive it all.
1.) Study for the GMATs (I know, I know, I've been saying this forever now. Seriously this time)
2.) Run at least 3 times a week
3.) Go geocaching
4.) Build a potato gun
5.) Visit a Texas winery
6.) Plan a deep sea fishing trip
7.) Read almost every night before bedtime
8.) Fish and go camping as many times as possible
9.) Figure out if it's Houston or Austin for the next year
10.) Learn more soup recipes
11.) Learn French
12.) Save more money - this is a big one
13.) Drink less alcohol
14.) Improve my piano and guitar skills
15.) Take an informal class at UT
I think that's good for now. Maybe I'll think of more later.
Man, it's exhausting just looking at the list. Well, here goes nothing. Wish me luck.

not again.. dear god.. not again..
Really? Really, 2009??
Why, God??? Why? Why is it every time I feel he's almost nearly out of my life, something happens to bring him back? Is it a test? Please, tell me. This is ridiculous. EVERY TIME! I'm not ready! Stop testing me!!
I met someone that I really like. And things started going well. And then things started going not so well. And before I'm even able to try to figure out why things aren't going the way I want them to, a bomb is dropped, and I'm left trying to pick up the scattered pieces that were blown up everywhere. It's not that I want him back. I don't. Not anymore. Not after everything he's put me through. But why is it that I still feel he's my foundation? That I can't accomplish anything without him? Why is it that I still feel like I need him? WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING??!??!
And why is it that when I hear his voice, everything that I've worked for, everything I've tried to run away and move on from, all of it comes crashing down right on me, as if he knows what I'm doing at every second of the day?
God, help me. Please. I can't do this anymore. I just can't. I just can't. I just can't.
"i just cant believe you're gone
still waiting for morning to come
when i see if the sun will rise
in the way that you're by my side
when we had so much in store
tell me what is it i'm reaching for
when we're through building memories
i'll hold yesterday in my heart
they can take tomorrow and the plans we made
they can take the music that we'd never play
all the broken dreams, take everything
just take it away, but they can never have yesterday
they can take the future that we'll never know
they can take the places that we said we would go
all the broken dreams, take everything
just take it away, but they can never have yesterday"

age is just a number, mrs. robinson
My birthday is coming up! Aaaah!! A quarter of a century years old. Since I turned 21, what have I been doing?!? Lots of January babies this month!
I've been having these stomach pains for the past few weeks now every time I eat. It's weird! I hate going to the doctor, and I'm just kind of waiting it out to see what happens. I've had a combo of allergies, a cold, and a fever in the last three weeks. Throw a stomach ache on top of all that, and it's nothing!
Out of concern for me, my friend decides to look up my symptoms online to try to figure out what I have. We turn to the reliable webmd.com for all those people who are either too lazy or too afraid to go to the real doctor themselves (I fall into both categories). My friend starts to fill out this form and answers all the questions needed for my profile. Sex, race, age... He clicks "18-24," looks over at me, and then says, "Oh wait, you're 25 next week." So, he changes the age range to say "25-34," and I start to flip. Holy moly. I'm not in the 18-24 age range anymore! Why would they do something like that?!? Why don't they just put the teens in one category, and the 20s in another! Is there some sort of physical change that's supposed to happen to my body between the ages of 24 and 25? I start freaking out.
Sigh.. 25. A quarter closer to a century. It sounds old, but I know I'm going to look back 5 years from now and wish I was turning 25 again. So, bask in this moment, right?
This morning, another friend of mine wrote to me, "Remember when you feel like it's going downhill after 25... it is true." Hahahaha. Whatever. He's already way at the bottom of that hill. Only a matter of time before I am, too.
Speaking of age, in terms of dating, is it more taboo for an older woman to date a younger guy or vice versa? What's more socially acceptable? Just curious.

feelin' fine in 2009
Quick recap:
Christmas was great! I got tons of good stuff. I got my brother a GPS system, and he got me the same thing. That was funny. Rock Band was a huge hit with the family, and lots of quality time with the family was spent. I tend to stay away from the internet world as much as I can while I'm at home. Hence, the lack of blogs in December.
New Year's was fun as well. It was pretty low-key. I cooked dinner with friends and went to the lake to watch the fireworks show. Good food, good company, good times. I'm glad it turned out this way. Usually, New Year's is a little disappointing. Okay, a lot disappointing. But, it didn't turn out so terribly this time around. Maybe it's a sign! Hopefully things start to look up!
And now, here I am! January is the official birthday month. Round one of birthdays starts on January 9 with one of my bestfriends. And don't forget mine!!!! Quarter of a century, here I come! Ugh.. hmm.. this better be a good year.
Resolutions anyone? Mine is to try not to suck so much at life this year.
I like how my goals keep getting higher and higher. haha

NINJA HAULER: 2005 Nissan Xterra - $12900 (Ronan / Lake County)
I came across this interesting ad in Seattle, WA and felt I must share it with the world. It gave me a good laugh for about 30 minutes at work. Hilarious. I always appreciate wit and good writing. I'd totally contact this person just to meet him. Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: 2008-11-19, 10:04PM MST
OK, let me start off by saying this Xterra is only available for purchase by the manliest of men (or women). My friend, if it was possible for a vehicle to sprout chest hair and a five o'clock shadow, this Nissan would look like Tom Selleck. It is just that manly.
It was never intended to drive to the mall so you can pick up that adorable shirt at Abercrombie & Fitch that you had your eye on. It wasn't meant to transport you to yoga class or Linens & Things. No, that's what your Prius is for. If that's the kind of car you're looking for, then just do us all a favor and stop reading right now. I mean it. Just stop.
This car was engineered by 3rd degree ninja super-warriors in the highest mountains of Japan to serve the needs of the man that cheats death on a daily basis. They didn't even consider superfluous nancy boy amenities like navigation systems (real men don't get lost), heated leather seats (a real man doesn't let anything warm his butt), or On Star (real men don't even know what the hell On Star is).
No, this brute comes with the things us testosterone-fueled super action junkies need. It has a 265 HP engine to outrun the cops. It's got special blood/gore resistant upholstery. It even has a first-aid kit in the back. You know what the first aid kit has in it? A pint of whiskey, a stitch-your-own-wound kit and a hunk of leather to bite down on when you're operating on yourself. The Xterra also has an automatic transmission so if you're being chased by Libyan terrorists, you'll still be able to shoot your machine gun out the window and drive at the same time. It's saved my bacon more than once.
It has room for you and the four hotties you picked up on the way to the gym to blast your pecs and hammer your glutes. There's a tow hitch to pull your 50 caliber anti-Taliban, self cooling machine gun. I also just put in a new windshield to replace the one that got shot out by The Man.
My price on this bad boy is an incredibly low $12,900, but I'll entertain reasonable offers. And by reasonable, I mean don't walk up and tell me you'll give me $5,000 for it. That's liable to earn you a Burmese-roundhouse-sphincter-kick with a follow up three fingered eye-jab. Would it hurt? Hell yeah. Let's just say you won't be the prettiest guy at the Coldplay concert anymore.
There's only 69,000 miles on this four-wheeled hellcat from Planet Kickass. Trust me, it will outlive you and the offspring that will carry your name. It will live on as a monument to your machismo.
Now, go look in the mirror and tell me what you see. If it's a rugged, no holds barred, super brute he-man macho Chuck Norris stunt double, then contact me. I might be out hang-gliding or BASE jumping or just chilling with my ladies, but I'll get back to you. And when I do, we'll talk about a price over a nice glass of Schmidt while we listen to Johnny Cash.
To sweeten the deal a little, I'm throwing in this pair of MC Hammer pants for the man with rippling quads that can't fit into regular pants. Yeah, you heard me. FREE MC Hammer pants.
Rock on.

have yourself a merry little christmas
I went to a couple holiday parties this past weekend. The first one was with SweetNSour, and her company threw a casino-themed dinner. It was so fun! I played craps for the first time and totally got addicted to it. I was hesitant to play at first because I felt I should save my beginner's luck for Vegas. Anyway, I didn't want to miss an opportunity to learn, and after that night, I can safely say that I understand how easily people fall into gambling. It moves so fast and it's hard to keep track of how much money you have because you keep thinking, "Okay, I'll win it all back in this next roll." We traded in our chips for tickets to put in the raffle. The prizes were really good, and we thought we had a good shot, but we didn't win. Dangit. Oh well. It was a lot of fun nevertheless.
The second party I went to was practically a wedding reception. It was in a ballroom at the Hilton hotel, there was a live band, and there was food/alcohol served all night. Pretty grandiose. There were tons of people there. From jeans to prom dresses, there was qute a diverse group of people. I walked in with my friend, and he wanted to check into his hotel room before we entered the party. We walked up, and the concierge took a look at both of us before saying, "We upgraded your room, sir." My friend and I looked at each other in astonishment and were like, "Awesome, thanks!" Initially, a room with two queen beds was reserved in case I stayed over due to a night of drunken debauchery. However, my parents were in the vicinity, and I asked that they pick me up instead since we had to wake up early the next morning for my grandpa's 80th birthday.
Anyway, after my own company dinner last Wednesday (of which I will not post about - partly because it's beyond blog-worthy embarrassing and partly because I don't remember at all the rest of the night), I knew to limit myself to one or two wine glasses. Tops. We got the key and went upstairs to check out the room. We walked all the way to the end of the hall, and I kept cracking jokes about how they wanted to keep him away from the rest of the guests. Finally after reaching the end, I remember saying, "Wow! Corner suite! Nice!" We walked in, and there was one king size bed smack dab in the center of the room. We stood there for a moment in confusion, and then my friend said, "Uhh.. good thing you're going home because this could've been really awkward."
We wondered how he got "upgraded" from two queen sized beds to one king sized one. In the end, we figured the concierge was trying to help us out by getting us the honeymoon suite. I was surprised there were no balloons or rose petals leading up to a bubble bath in the restroom. Hahaha. Oh man. It was funny.
Both parties were good times. I love the holidays. Thanks, friends, for thinking of me when you were looking for company. I hope you had as much fun as I did. <3

moving on up
This week, I've been packing up my things, dusting off the desk, and saying my goodbyes to friends I've made here in the past couple of years. While I'm excited about the new building, saying farewell to people you've been seeing every day for a number of years is never easy. I'm sad to be leaving them.
Anyway, it's been pretty busy at work with all the moving. I'm so not cut out for manual labor, but it has to be done. It'll be like moving from middle school to high school. I'll have to learn where all my friends will be sitting, where the bathrooms are... new desk, new cafeteria, new everythings. And my desk? Why, on the penthouse floor right next to the window that faces the skyline of Austin, of course. What's nice is that I'm totally serious.
I love my job.

I would like to express my gratitude for you in a poem. Please enjoy (and/or laugh)
A poem for Janice:
Why are you so kind?
Always, with others on your mind
A selfless friend to the end
My gratitude to extend
A pretty face
With such grace
So much more grace than the rest
I tell you Janice, you are the best

On the Contrary (a poem for Kimsey)
You need not say
Another word
For your own kindness
Is much deserved
Of cheers and laud
From knights and kings
And merry little elves
Among other things
So e’er you need
Another favor
Kimsey, dear friend
My pleasure shan’t waver.
